Sketch Book Page

These are just a few rough sketches for a children's book (involving a boy and a dinosaur) and a graphic novel (the scary guy in the mask) that I'm in the early stages of working on. Most of these kinds of sketches are done late at night while I'm watching talk shows. I figure if I'm going to waste part of my life watching TV, I might as well get a few sketches out of the deal. Stay tuned for more daring doodles in the coming weeks (and more polished pieces too!) Thanks for checking out my blog. Feel free to leave a comment or two as well! As always, just click on the illustration to see it full-size.

Cool triceratops..!! I like the other sketches as well. Should look great when you ink and color them. Thanks for sharing.

Hi John:

Love the new sketches. It sounds like you have some exciting ideas, I will enjoy seeing them evolve.

Finally! See, that wasn't so hard. Details on the triceratops are good–and it looks massive (3D, as opposed to 2D). The kid looks ok– but I think you should make the character come alive. Make him ride a bike, fly a kite, or run away from a rabid dog (or dinosaur)! The scary dude doesn't do much for me at the moment–a character like that demands a dramatic pose. There–was that critical enough? Keep drawing!

I'm hoping to become a regular visitor, so post regularly for me, okay?

I have a great deal of respect and admiration for people who can do what you do. I cannot draw adequate stick figures; my talent lies in writing.

I've written a children's story for which my adopted mother is supposed to be creating illustrations. Her life is in a bit of, well, let's just call it 'upheaval' at the moment and I doubt much drawing is getting done. Of course, I can't ask anyone ELSE to do it. Sigh. Do you know of any publishers to whom I could pitch the story?
