While I'm putting the finishing touches on my cat illustration (see previous post,) I thought I'd give you a window in to my infinitely exciting social life (that's sarcasm folks!) Actually this past Sunday was exciting if you're a comic book or Star Wars fan/geek/nerd. I'm guilty on both counts but my passion for both comics and Star Wars is unbelievably tame when compared to many of the folks one finds at conventions like the one my sister, nephews and friend Robert attended in Manchester, NH (Granite Con.)We were greeted at the entrance by many Storm Trooper, Boba Fetts, jedi, Princess Leia, Darth Vader and get this--a LIFE-SIZED, WORKING Jabba the Hutt puppet made by, one can only assume, the die-hard fans dressed in costumes. Once my nephews saw Jabba and his minions, it was like trying to drag Bill Clinton away from a chubby intern (or Hillary from a pants suit.) The rows upon row of comics, toys, artists and even Stephen King's son signing his own best-selling novel and comic series paled in comparison to Jabba and friends. Who can blame them? Truth be told, that was the highlight of the day. Some of us enjoyed our time with Jabba a little too much as is evident from the above photo of my friend and Jabba admirer Robert. I wonder if his new wife will consider this act of "slug love" cheating...

Why is there a photo of me and Jabba on your site? Where are the pictures of you getting cheeky with the Princess Leia look-alike? Or you drooling over the stormtrooper's laser blaster? Anyone who wants to know where these Star Wars characters came from, check out www.501neg.com - maybe you can hire a Jawa for your next office party.
Robert: The easy answer for the lack of pics of me with fellow, costumed, Star Wars geeks is that nobody took one of me with Princess Leia and in the ones of me with Jabba, it would be difficult for the viewer to discern who was Jabba; the puppet or me! I need to hit the gym before I DO morph into that giant, gansta' space slug... Besides, it's much more fun to embarass you than myself--ha,ha!
